Wrapping Out

When a show ends - regardless of it being film or TV there is the inevitable wrap out.. which evokes a lot of things. Happiness that enforced unemployment is just around the corner after months of long long days and hours. Or at least the prospect for a tiny - if only a week - time off in between jobs. There are celebrations and congratulations thrown around left and right. There are wrap gifts, wrap lunches, wrap-be-my-friend facebook requests. There is also this weird hollow feeling as one by one the desks get emptied and all the files are archived. As this show is axed we are doing a massive clean out. Resulting in me just wanting to run away from it all and go on holidays! I personally do not like the long wrap out. It suddenly feels like there is no purpose to ever being here in the first place -- see sentence above for sad hollow feeling..

In essence it feels like the end of a relationship when it's been a mutual decision to part. Each party going their separate ways onto other things. The main conversation in the halls is 'So what are you going on to?'. Luckily nearly everyone I know on this show is off to a great new gig in the industry and others are taking long holidays or starting renovations they should of done eons ago. You know you'll cross paths again, more then likely work together again or occasionally catch up with what they are all doing via status updates so all is good. What comes next is like the first day of school when you have to make new friends....
